happy valentine’s day

Cyan wanted to make Valentine’s cards for some of her school friends.. she picked coloured card which I trimmed into some little rounded cards using a corner punch. Pink for the girls, naturally, and purple and blue for the boys. She drew a different picture on each card, and added some heart stickers, gems and sequins.

Even the envelopes looked cute, she added heart stickers on all the ‘i’s..

I included the little toadstool in the photos at Cyan’s request, when I asked her not to seal the cards in the envelopes so I could take them out later and take a picture of them she told me “I’m finding pretty things to go in the picture with my cards”. Amazing, five years old and she’s thinking about staging photographs!



This laser-cut wooden heart was my alternative to a Valentine’s card for Karl, from Timber Green Woods on Etsy. I love that it has the year – 2011 – worked into the design, it commemorates this the year of our wedding.

alice in wonderland party bags and favours

I made these necklaces as favours for Cyan’s Alice in Wonderland birthday party. I found the coloured aluminium chain when I was buying the charms for Oliver’s pirate dalek party. I had lots of the little key charms left over, I then found little gold heart charms – but I was having trouble finding the right charms for each necklace.

The cute little acrylic faceted teapots in all the same colours as the chains were a lucky find on ebay the week before the party! I love how they look with the chains. The necklaces fasten with a heart shaped clasp..

I was going to make some charms with pictures on, using Michele’s tutorial here using printing onto tissue paper and mod podge, my first try didn’t quite work out as I hoped, and I just didn’t have the time to do more trials. I will be playing around with this idea again though..



The party bags are made from different colours of gingham, with coordinated grosgrain ribbon handles; and a shaped felt pocket for each character. Featuring..

I made the heart and cat bag styles back in July for the felt week of CraftShare 2010 at Sew Can Do..

The stickers I designed for each character were included.. (Thanks moo!)

 

And I made up colouring books – also using the John Tenniel illustrations..



Sadly I ran out of time to make the heart shaped crayons I was planning to do, luckily I had bought these cute mini gel pens as a back-up.

a hoard of beach treasures

It’s been a very busy week, one way and another.. I did find time to wash and sort our stash of treasures which have been collected over several days out to various local beaches so far this year. The creamy/white ones on the left above my Mum collected from a Spanish beach on her holidays, some with perfect round holes! They all looked so pretty laid out to dry in the beautiful sunshine.

Some of these were collected when we went to the Pirate weekend at Mount Edgcumbe recently, most of these have come from Mount Edgcumbe, which has a couple of little pebbly beaches which are full of shells and sea glass. My kids have inherited (or learnt?!) my love (obsession!) of beach combing, every time we visit a beach we come back with another load of treasure!



Some of these treasures (heart shaped stones, large sea glass pieces) I have specific purposes in mind for (look out for future projects coming soon), the tiny shells will go into my tiny shell collection jars, and I have promised the kids a jar each to fill with their favourite treasures to keep in their rooms. The rest will get organised into more jars (part of my new getting organised craftiness!) and sit around looking pretty until I have a purpose for them!

hand-print hearts mother’s day card

A quick card for Mother’s Day, would also make a lovely birthday card. We made two cards for the kids to give to Grandma and Nana. Got the idea from Oliver’s card which he made for me at school. The kids each made two hearts by making angled hand-prints, when the paint was dry I cut out the heart shapes and we mounted them onto the cards using foam adhesive pads to give a slight 3d effect. We used purple and green co-ordinated paint and card colours.



Spent a lovely sunny afternoon at Dartington Cider Press Centre, a favourite place to visit here in South Devon, with craft shops, a fantastic toy shop, Cranks restaurant, and we also caught the fantastic juggling show just before we left.



Above right, my Mother’s Day offerings, a teapot card and a keyring Cyan made at pre-school; and two cards from Oli, the hand-print heart and another which he made before I got up, with, yes, more honking ducks!
